Frequently Asked Questions

*What grades are able to attend PACS? We are an experiential high school, so you must be a student in 7th-12th grade to attend.

*What is a charter school? As a charter school, we are an independent, publicly-funded organization. Students are able to earn the same diploma they would at any other public school. Minnesota Charter Schools employ innovative, alternative educational approaches to curriculum.

*Do you follow the same calendar as the other schools? We have a similar calendar to others schools, simply because we take holiday breaks. However, we break up our entire school year into sessions that are roughly six weeks long. There are a total of six sessions per year, and we have a total of 164 school days.

*What is a Field Experience? Since we are an experiential school, our goal is to get out into the neighboring community for field experiences once a week. A field experience allows our students to travel and explore local businesses and career opportunities before they graduate.

*How are you different from a traditional school? As a charter school, we are still a public school. However, being a smaller school, we are afforded the opportunity to have a smaller student-to-teacher ratio than the average public school. Not only are class sizes smaller, but we take advantage of an advisory setting. Each student is placed in an advisory group with two staff members, and twice a day we meet as an advisory group. Our average class size is closer to 10-15 students, as opposed to the average class size in a larger public school being closer to 25-30.

*What does the average school day look like?
